FAQs

It is tempting to skip this step and save a few bucks when buying a new or previously owned home, but a home inspection should never be skipped. A few dollars spent up front to discover potential problems with a home can save mega bucks down the road when the potential problems turn into reality and require major repair. These commonly asked questions and answers regarding a home inspection will shed some light on why an inspection is needed and how it is conducted by the professionals at ReDefined Spaces.

Should a new home be inspected?
YES! Not all new home construction is up to par and a shady contractor or builder may have cut corners on building material that only a professional home inspector will be able to detect before a problem arises.

How long will a home inspection take?
Less than four hours with the exact time depending upon the size and age of the home.

What gets inspected?
A lot of things are covered in the inspection. Please visit our home inspections page for a full list of inspection details.

What types of properties do you inspect?
New and existing homes, condos, multi-unit residence, apartment buildings, and commercial properties.

Who pays for the home inspection?
When building, buying a new or existing home, the cost of inspection is always negotiable, but typically the purchaser pays the cost. The house you live in will be your biggest investment, so it is well worth the cost of a home inspection to ensure everything is as it should be.

Who gets the home inspection report?
The one who paid for the home to be inspected is the one who receives the home inspection report. No one else will receive a report unless you authorize it and then those authorized will be sent via mail, email or fax, a copy of the report.

Can a home fail an inspection?
Not exactly. A home inspection report points out all the needed repairs, both major and minor, but it’s not an appraisal or code inspection.
